How Does An Artist Help The Community?

Artist - Is that you, me or everybody?

In our society, an artist is the one who paints, whose art is framed and hung on a wall, but that is such a narrow and old-fashioned outlook. By definition, an artist is the one who creates art. Is art restricted to painting? No. Art encompasses a lot of human creations, and painting just is one of them. We need to rethink why someone is called an artist while the other person is not.

An artist can be a person who turns a pile of bricks into a highly sophisticated walking path, a person who designs a sculpture in the park of their neighborhood or a person decorating gardens. Artist is a person who can create something from nothing or who sees potential in things which have been abandoned by others or deemed as useless.

Most importantly, artist is a person who can create a sense of community.

Artists support their communities by teaching their art and craft. A father who is a painter or a gardener can teach their children how to draw, paint or be creative with the things nature blessed us with. They can teach others kindness and acceptance through offering their art on local auctions and raising money for good causes. They can educate others on topics that currently matter by expressing political issues, spirituality or even the beauty of living through their art form.

On the other hand, an artist can put a smile on a person's face by writing an encouraging graffiti or a message on the wall. They can transform a lonely rock into a colorful decoration. What once was dull, now is bright and full of life. They can be significant players in making local communities connect and creating a safe space for creativity and bonding.

Finally, as long as you work genuinely, wholeheartedly and have the courage to be vulnerable in every work you create, you will be helping humankind in the best way possible. You will create art that reflects humanity through your own self-expression. As a result, it will help people discover deeper versions of themselves.

Everybody is an artist to me, no matter the skill or creativity.
