Reflection

I decided to participate in the Art & Mental health group – Art Fart this module. I knew it would be a challenge for me but I guess that’s why I chose it. If something scares you, you can learn something from it. It wasn’t the ‘being creative’ part that was difficult for me, but the fact that I had to make art pieces that I hadn’t put a lot of effort in (only 15 minutes) scared me.

What did I learn from Art Fart?

I learned to make art without thinking about the result. I let go of my perfectionism a little. Making art without thinking about the outcome made me realise how much I like making art.

What did you learn about yourself through participating in this HP?

I always knew that I liked being creative. But I always found it hard to start making something, because I did not want to make something that wasn't perfect. So I just didn't.

Now I know that having a small exercise tot start with really helps me. I don't have to worry about coming up with an amazing idea before I start making art. By simply starting with a simple exercise it is easier for me to get in the flow and continue without overthinking.

What did you like/dislike from the assignment?

I really liked that Art Fart pushed me to have a little creative break everyday. This really helped me to spark my boring lockdown routine.

My art piece

I wanted to make a art piece that shows that every person has different layers. We all have prejudices when we see someone, also when we haven't even spoken with someone. Besides that, I also wanted to show that you never fully know a person, even if you think you do. Every picture of me with a different piece of my artwork shows a different layer of me. The first is everything you see/think when you first see mee, the second layer shows things that you know when you've talked to me several times, the third layers shows the ‘me’ you know when you are close to me, the fourth layer shows struggles I have. I only share those with a few really close friends and my boyfriend. And even they don't know everything.

Art Fart changed my behaviour. I realised that making art is something that I really enjoy and I want do more often. I think I will continue with making art a part of my planning. This really helped with Art Fart and it by doing this, making art becomes a priority.

I really loved Art Fart! This quartile I connected with people in real life (wow :O), we had a lovely group of people and I loved making art.
